   GET A FREE EMAIL ADDRESS:

   I suggest people NOT use Yahoo as a ‘throw-away’ mail account. Yahoo is a great web based email service, and cluttering it with SPAM and trash accounts is a disservice to people who use Yahoo for legitimate purposes. Rather, I have two excellent alternatives, including one that allows you to use your own regular e-mail account. There are two websites specifically designed to offer ‘throw-away’ mail accounts.

   mailinator.com and dodgeit.com

   Understand what these sites are. They are SPAM baskets. These are unpassworded accounts that anyone can access if they use the same name you choose for your account. I use unusual spellings that no one is likely to guess. But it doesn’t really matter. Remember, it’s only a throw-away SPAM catcher. Visit the site and you’ll see what I mean.

   The other option is Spamgourmet.com. Once you sign up, you can use a spamgourmet.com account to filter all of your e-mail for spam. For example, if I’m concerned that DailyTool might start spamming me, I give the address

   dailytool.3.nopayne @spamgourmet.com.

   Note the number ‘3′ in the middle of the address. Spamgourmet.com will allow only 3 e-mails to the address, which are forwarded to my regular email account. Spamgourmet.com explains it better than I do, but it is a useful way to protect your mailbox from unsolicited SPAM.

   Both of these methods deal with SPAM the right way, without abusing a legitimate, friendly service like Yahoo.
