Google is testing a new Free 411 (Directory Assistance) service. It seems to work better than the one we previously posted without the commercials. Try it with your city and state, then ask for “Pizza” instead of a particular pizza joint. They offer quite a few details for each listing! It’s currently only available in English, in the US, for US business listings. You can also get the details by SMS if you’re using a mobile phone - Just say “text message”. To try this service, just dial 1-800-GOOG-411 or 1-800-466-4411 from any phone.
The other service we posted last year (from Jingle Networks), pays for their free service by running an advertisement or 2 before they give you the number. We suspect Google will do the same in the future. Jingle Networks also supports Residential listings which Google has yet to implement. Call 1-800-FREE-411 or 1-800-373-3411
