About 5000 Unique People came to DailyTool.com yesterday and If we all give at least $1, that’s a lot of money! Please give as much as you can. Special Thanks to Amazon for their quick efforts!!!
As you probably already know, DailyTool.com is a blog.
Yes, I post A LOT of Awesome Deals and some really cool stuff (that isn’t necessarily a deal). But I like to keep the site interesting when I have a little time and give some good information and links. I love the internet and I don’t know what I’d ever do without it and like to share my experiences and information I find interesting with my visitors.
I wrote a bit about Hurricane Katrina a couple days ago here and I thought I would provide a link to the Red Cross if you can donate a little (or a lot). Here’s what they’re doing to help the victims of Katrina.
I have not heard or read ONE news story about other countries trying to lend a hand to the victims from Hurricane Katrina (other than a few engineers coming from the UK). So typical… We help out any country in the world, in any catastrophic situation, under any circumstance and without regret. Where are the helicopters and support from Mexico, Canada, Brazil, etc.??? They could have been here already. Pathetic… Take care of your own is the mentality of every other country in the world - Bar-None!
Our USAID program is a MAMMOTH operation that most Americans are unaware of. Here are just a few of the Major USAID Accomplishments that are almost unbelievable. Here’s what USAID has done just this year (2005), and only a small part of their disaster assistance program. That doesn’t even include the Red Cross or the US Military global disaster assistance. Here’s what USAID Disaster Assistance did in 2003 and 2004.
Read some of the stories about how USAID has helped the world below. Then donate a little to the Red Cross because we need to take care of our own this time…

Think about it before you contribute to the Red Cross - there are other organizations doing good work. Before contributing to the Red Cross, ask if they ever accounted for all funds raised after 9/11. As an example, they set up college scholarships for survivors’ children with surplus funds. However, having made the publicity coup, they will not release these funds until or unless the children actually need these funds. Red Cross keeps the money, gets interest on these funds and, maybe, pays out some money 5 t0 15 years later! Figure out the interest on these funds for this period of time. The Red Cross has never accounted for this.

Good point to share. Could you recommend someone else to contribute to? Someone that’s helping the Katrina efforts?

I have two points…
First, although the Red Cross made a serious PR blunder post-9/11, no reputable source has said that the money was misappropriated. It’s true that the people donating thought that every dollar would go to 9/11 victims, when in fact some of the money ended up going to tsunami victims instead (and I definitely do agree that the Red Cross screwed up with that misrepresentation) - but it didn’t go into Red Cross officials’ pockets, or up their noses. Remember the United Way in the late 80’s?
Second, there is at least one country (a rich one with a lot of oil, too!) that has very loudly offered to send assistance to Katrina’s victims, and has offered to send cheap oil to America’s poor, too. That country is Venezuela, headed by Hugo Chavez - the guy Pat Robertson thinks we should assassinate - no, I mean kidnap - no, I guess he did say assassinate after all… Anyway, I don’t like the man or his politics (I mean Chavez - I really barely think Robertson is human), but you have to admire his huevos.
Anyway, I donate blood to the Red Cross regularly even though I know they make money on it - because I trust them to help people with that money. And if I donate money to them for hurricane relief, and my donation ends up helping earthquake victims, or genocide refugees, instead… well, I won’t complain too much about it.

Of course Chavez wants to help. He thinks we’re trying to assasinate him! Remember Pablo Escobar? I agree to both your points though. The Red Cross is a non-profit and doesn’t have any $5M CEOs. If the money ends up going to a good cause, I’m happy to give it…
